Every woman faces stressful moments during pregnancy. Infrequent stress does not have a long-term influence on the baby. Depressed moms give birth to babies who are 1.5 times more prone to depression, once they are 18 years old. At this age, these children are facing emotional problems such as aggression. In the study mentioned above, there was an explanation that babies had a normal development when their mothers’ mental conditions were good during pregnancy and after birth. If there is some change of these circumstances, the child’s development significantly slowed down. For example, if the mother was healthy during her pregnancy period, but become depressed right after giving birth, the baby might suffer slower development.

Going through occasional sad periods is normal, and every person has them. They are part of our lives, and if you have them from once in a while, there is nothing that should concern you. Short-term stresses will not leave lasting effects on your baby.

The best way to reduce stress and improve your health condition in general, is to practice mental activities such as yoga, exercise regularly, be physically active, long baths, taking deep breaths, and use common herbs.
