After years of research, scientists came across an amazing discovery. They say that tea can immensely reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
The National University of Singapore conducted a study that showed that drinking tea can reduce the risk of this disease.
Tea provides many benefits for the human brain, and it is a very cheap and more importantly, it is a drug free treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.
Tea is the best way to prevent Alzheimer’s disease
The study that we mentioned above, included over 950 adults, generally around 55 and older. The study examined the drinking habits of the participants, in a span of two years (2003-2005). Then, for the next four years, from 2006 to 2010, the researchers evaluated the cognitive functions of the participants.
The results concluded that people who opt for tea, and drink it regularly, have a reduced risk of neurocognitive disorders by more than 50%. Furthermore, the researchers concluded that tea is very effective for the people that are predisposed to this terrible disease. Tea reduced the risk in those people by a whopping 86%!
How the tea impacts the brain?
Tea contains some potent compounds like catechins and theaflavins, that are rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which can protect the human brain from aging. Theanine and caffeine also make the person that ingests them, perform much better at work.
One study showed that EGCG, which is a very important chemical that can be found in green tea, notably improves memory levels. It also promotes the production of neural progenitor cells.
EGCG was tested on mice, and it was found that it greatly improves their spatial memory and it helped them recognize objects. This chemical is the reason why green tea is so important when it comes to preventing Alzheimer’s. It can also improve alertness and reduce mental fatigue.
What to do in order to get the most out of tea
- Use real tea leaves
Although tea bags are good, beneficial and convenient for this condition, the real tea leaves are far more healing and offer much more health benefits. This does not mean that tea bags are bad, but the real tea leaves offer so much more.
- Don’t brew the tea for too long
It is important that you watch out for the time when you are brewing your tea. Green tea needs only two to three minutes steeping. When that time passes, it releases a bitter taste and tannins.
- Be careful of what you’re adding
Tea can very easily become unhealthy drink, if you add the wrong ingredients. For example, if you sweeten your tea with multiple teaspoons of table sugar, you will ruin your drink and you will add empty calories to it.
You can also use Manuka honey or organic honey, because they contain number of healing properties.
You can also add coconut milk or organic full fat milk. It is important to know that everything you add should be organic. Avoid non-dairy creamers like carrageenan, corn syrup or hydrogenated soybean oil because they contain harmful ingredients and artificial colors.
